Directing Lessons from Dirty Harry

We’ve just read a great article written by Bridget Angear (Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO).  She gleans lessons for planners based on the work ethic and style of Clint Eastwood.  Read full article here.

Here’s our translation in a nutshell for brand directors:

Be brief – sum up your thinking about the brand so people get it and can follow your direction readily.

Be curious – seek out new ideas for your brand and ways to keep it current.

Be collaborative – surround yourself with good talent, but this does not mean making decisions by committee!

Stay hungry – never get complacent, there’s always room for improvement.

Work out your own style – benchmark others, but find your own space in the market that’s truly distinctive and useful.

Move quickly – don’t spend ages over-thinking and over-testing.  Yes, think things through but move on your ideas before the moment passes you by.
